The

let you hear another way of playing the chords
above. Part of a piano players job in a group
of Jazz musicians is to play the chords in
a certain style. This style is called "Comping"
or to "Comp." "Comp."
is an abbreviation for : To Accompany other
musicians.
"Comping" means to play the chords
intermittently and fill in brief and
mostly blank spaces left open in the music
by the other players. This is NOT the same
as playing "Fills." We will discuss
this technique later.
