The
first not so important rule was
to:
Use
the chords for the composers original
melody line.
The
second not so important rule is:
Construct
a new melody (improvise) based on
the chords.
Remember
that when the composer wrote the song
they constructed a set of chords that
complimented the melody line. You
are doing the opposite when improvising.
You are attempting to construct a
new melody line that is complimentary
to the chords. In short:
Original
Song
melody line, then chords
Improvising
chords, then new melody line.
In
the next lesson we will explore more
about how to construct a new melody
line based on the established chords.
Your world is changing now. The knowledge
you have is opening you up to a very
new experience in music. Over the next
week I'd like to listen to some Jazz
soloists and keep in mind what you have
learned hear today as you listen.
